The Second New Deal Although most First New Deal programs fell short of their goals, they and FDR enjoy widespread popularity FDR launches the Second New Deal to help the “forgotten man” 1936 election sees FDR win in a huge landslide over Landon(523-8 and over 65% of popular vote) Democrats increase majority in Congress as well FDR’s wife Eleanor plays vital role as advisor Many 2nd New Deal programs aid farmers AAA replaced by SCDAA and 2nd AAA RSA and FSA also help farmers keep their land

Biggest programs of 2nd New Deal wound up being the WPA headed by Hopkins Between ‘35-’43 it will create almost 9 million new jobs, and will produce 300 million pieces of clothing, 850 airports, 650,000 miles of road and 110,000 schools libraries and hospitals NYA created to help youth of US LABOR REFORMS To replace NIRA, Congress passes Wagner Act which creates NLRB Fair Labor Standards Act passed Social Security Act passed to aid retired and disabled Americans REA and PUHC passed to regulate industry
