Making Informed Choices Health Consumer- someone who purchases or uses health products or services to make informed buying decisions The most important influence you need to be aware of as a consumer is advertising- a written or spoken media message designed to interest consumers in purchasing a product or service; primary function to get you to buy a product Advertisers use various techniques and hidden messages to promote their products and services

Propaganda Techniques Bandwagon Technique Testimonial Loaded Word Misuse of statistics Name calling or stereotyping Plain Folks Snob Appeal- Rich and Famous Transfer Free Gifts – Its too good to be true Great Outdoors- If its associated with nature Good times- the product will add to your life

What is the purpose of the site? Evaluating Products Learn to read product labels: Labels give your important information about what a product contains Product labels carry the products name, its intended use, directions, warnings manufacturers information, and the amount in the container.
