What do we do with your application? Search committee: Composition depends on the institution … talk about those specifics in breakout session. Task: Determine bona fide from not. This means does the candidate have the “minimum qualifications” stated in the job posting. From bona fide candidates, develop a short list of 10 candidates for interview. Possibly conduct Skype interviews to shorten the “short list” to 3-4 candidates. Arrange for the on-site interviews of short list candidates. Typically, only the search committee sees all of the applicants’ materials. Full faculty may only see the interviewees (depends on how the university interprets the confidentiality laws).

The Interview Exact format is dependent on the institution type, but here are a couple of things that are pretty common: You are always being interviewed if you’re with someone. There is no break until you’re in your hotel room alone. Airport pick-up Breakfast, lunch (even with students), dinner Face-to-face meetings with faculty and Dean Meetings with students Your presentation Be yourself, but don’t be shy about being excited and enthusiastic (in your way) about the job opportunity.
The Interview Skype (or similar) interviews are becoming more common in these tight budget times. Take the Skype call in a professional location. Look at the background in your camera views. Make sure it is professional looking. Be in a space where you will not be interrupted and where you can completely focus on the questions. Another interview type – asynchronous interviews. You answer interview questions on a video and send them in.
