English 11 – Periods 4, 5, & 6 Wed, August 30 & Thurs, August 31 Do now: Pick up song lyrics & note sheet Please remain in same desk groups! HW due today: “10 Things I Know to be True” List completed – TURN IN WIRE BASKET! Sign up on Remind (overdue) Remind text - ONE life lesson from your “10 Things I Know” list Supplies!

Today’s Activities Warm Up Finish Info Sheet paragraph resp. (turn in info sheet, keep para’s) “A Boy Named Sue” – listen/lyrics – life lesson? “10 Things I Know” / Personal Narrative Essay Complete “10 Things” list if did not Planning Organizer - review Read 1-2 ex.’s/annotate in group – qualities of personal narrative Choose your top three life lessons from your list Freewrite/rough plan your backstory for each

Freewrite Starters Choose THREE “I Know” life belief statements from your list of ten; write each one down individually and leave room to write. Freewrite the specific story details that support each of these three truths for you (half a page each). DO not write a paragraph – just details! Take a few minutes and write without stopping. Write the details about the story connected with this “I Know” life belief; start where the story takes place. Describe this place in writing. What do you SEE? HEAR? Taste? Smell? FEEL? Write about the people who will be in your narrative. Think about the way each one looks, acts, and speaks. Conversation or dialogue is a good way to draw your readers into the action. List the main events of the narrative along a timeline.

HW - Fri 9/1 (4th) / Tues, 9/5 (5th/6th) Have THREE individual half page brainstornms written for THREE different “I Know” belief statements Sign up for Remind (if have not) - see Remind info on class BRHS page (yellow column on left) Have all supplies listed on syllabus (see me if needed) Period 4 – by Fri, 9/1 Period 5/6 – see me if needed
