Berry, MSN, RN, CNOR, PhD Student Karen Colorafi, PhD, MBA, RN, Assistant Professor College of Nursing, Washington State University, Spokane, WA Background Congenital anomalies, such as anencephaly, are: Leading cause of infant death in the United States Responsible for nearly 20% of infant mortality Current practice: nearly 100% of providers recommend termination of pregnancy. Nursing literature suggests as many as 40% of parents receiving the diagnosis of anencephaly wish to carry the pregnancy to term.
