PATTERNS IN THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES Call – Response An invitation to trust in God. Expect the unexpected. 2. Desert Experience The desert will prepare you for your call and help you respond… “yes, no, or maybe. 3. The Covenant God makes a promise for a new and better life. The covenant is frequently renewed and updated.

Patterns continued 4. Images of God God is often described with human qualities (kind, loving or powerful, angry) other times with divine qualities (creator, all present, all knowing) 5. Sacrificial system a form of prayer and worship to God. Often a burnt offering: a) for forgiveness of sins b) for peace and prosperity c) to appease God d) to praise or thank God

More patterns d) in the voice and life of the Prophets. 6. If you are faithful to God (the Law of Moses)…. you will be prosperous, healthy and at peace If you are unfaithful expect… suffering, disease, war and death (the effects of sin) 7. God’s Holy Presence is experienced : a) in the STORY of SALVATION (not statues) b) in the LAW of MOSES (God’s Word) c) in the presence of the ARK of the Covenant (In the Tabernacle or Temple) d) in the voice and life of the Prophets.

conclusion 8. God’s Holy Presence requirements: One must be pure, clean and holy (sinless) to be in God’s . Presence . Sins can be forgiven (see sacrifices #5)
