There are 3 types of communities Rural Suburban Urban

Rural Often called the country Fewer people live here than in other types of communities There are a few buildings spread out over large distances

Rural There is a lot of open space and natural space

Rural People live in houses They may or may not have neighbors Many people live on farms or ranches

Rural People on farms have enough land to raise crops People on ranches have enough land for animals Kids may have large animals as pets

Rural Some roads may not be paved Many people drive pickups People usually drive places because it’s too far to walk

Rural There are special farm vehicles such as: Tractors Combines Four-wheelers Cattle trailers

Suburban More people live here than in rural areas Less people live here than in urban areas They are usually close to a city Often called towns

Suburban People live in neighborhoods There are many natural areas

Suburban People get around different ways They often drive They may walk They may ride their bikes They may take the bus

Suburban Kids can ride bikes, scooters, roller skate, or skateboard

Suburban People live in houses or apartments They have close neighbors People have yards that are large enough for pets, like dogs or cats

Urban Many people live here close together There is a small amount of space There is not much open space or natural areas Often called cities

Urban People can get around by: Walking Taxi Train Bus Subway

Urban People live in houses or large apartment buildings They may share a building with many neighbors

Urban There is not outdoor space for large animals Kids can have small pets like fish or hamsters
