Go through and highlight important information. Prediction- This map shows the location of the Typhoon on Thursday 7th November 2013. This shows the predicted path of the typhoon, notice that the area showing the predicted track becomes wider with time. This is because the future track of the tropical storm is uncertain. In the North Atlantic there are 2 levels of warning. Hurricane Watch- advises that hurricanes conditions are possible Hurricane warning- hurricane conditions are expected so take action Homework Go through and highlight important information. Produce a revision card on the outline. Answer the Exam question Planning-Tens of millions of people live along the coast as many rely on fishing and tourism to make a living. So people need to understand the potential dangers and how to respond. In the USA there is a National Hurricane Preparedness Week which focuses on educating people about the dangerous of tropical storms. Bangladesh- Early warning systems, cyclones shelters and greater awareness have helped reduce the death toll from tropical cyclones. In 1970 500,000 people died due to the storms, in 2007 4234 people died. Protection- Cyclones are tracked by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Warnings are issued in several languages via TV radio and social media. In rural areas which are remote still get the messages by bike.

Prediction is the most significant management strategy for saving lives in tropical storms.
