Acaps!!! Primary Source Analysis: The following questions should always be considered when analyzing a primary source document or artifact. Although the answers to these questions are not always apparent, they can have important affects on the meaning, reliability, and significance of the source.

Author: Who created the source and what do you know about them or their point of view? How might this affect its’ meaning?

Context When and where was the source created? How may this affect its’ meaning?

Audience: For what audience was this source created and why? How may this affect its’ meaning?

Purpose For what reason was this source created? How might this affect its’ meaning and reliability? What do you know about the source that may help you further understand its purpose?

Significance Can anything be learned or inferred from this source? What is the main idea and why is this source important? How does the source relate to the question being asked?
