Electroacoustic Music

Electroacoustic Music Electroacoustic music is based on manipulation of acoustically-played (“unplugged”) music with Experimental Electronic (“plugged”) techniques such as loops, sampling etc. Electro-Acoustic music thrives in more unfamiliar territory; the styles that emerge are often dictated by the technology itself Composers of this genre will sample or ‘synthesize’ acoustic sounds to electronically replicate them, these composers tend to mutate the original timbres, sometimes to an unrecognizable state Artists in this genre also create their own sounds (as opposed to using the pre-set sounds that come with modern synthesizers) Electroacoustic Music

Electroacoustic Music In progressive electro-acoustic music, the electronics play an equal if not greater part in the overall concept Acoustic instruments performed in real time are usually processed through reverb, harmonizing, and so on, which adds an entirely new dimension to the player's technique Watch a live performance of Electroacoustic music Mario Davidovsky Ann Dudley Art of Noise Peter Gregson

Group Questions Can you identify the solo instrument which has been manipulated in this excerpt? How would you describe the tonality of this piece of music? Choose from the options below; Major Minor Atonal
