Medical Secretary Worcestershire Local Medical Committee (LMC) DR SIMON PARKINSON Medical Secretary Worcestershire Local Medical Committee (LMC)

Call for Action Why? GP Crisis is now accepted as fact Key issue is core business/workload “We must make the average GP day much more acceptable” Redefine the GP Role? - 1. Managing complex cases 2. dealing with undifferentiated presentation 3. Team leadership

Time for Action 3 Strands:- Practice Resilience System Efficiencies “Work Diversion” – Is this something an expert medical generalist should do? The emphasis has to be first to support our core then to try and free up time for additional MCP work

LMC Call For Action Locality Hubs Nursing Home Medical Care Baseline Funding Social Prescribing/Navigation Primary Care Academy Reducing Bureaucracy Data Sharing and Indemnity Issues

Locality Hubs Building extra capacity Practice resilience Extended hours/access Extending our teams – visiting service?

Nursing Homes Elderly care visiting Joint working with other care services Care for “Geriatric Hospitals”

Social Prescribing/Care Navigation Is this something an expert medical generalist should do? The default has to be stop being the GP Self Help Stop medicalising/treating social problems

Primary Care Academy Make Worcestershire a place where people want to come to work in primary care Support practices with training Train new workforce: HCAs Practice Nurses Advance Nurse Practitioners Receptionists/Care Navigation Physicians Associates GPs

Reducing Bureaucracy “Why is it all so difficult?” One call… Make our current systems work better!

Data Sharing and Indemnity Issues Data Controller – personal GP Partner liability Indemnity for cyber liability Indemnity for additional MCP/Extended Primary Care Team Members “When appointing new additional team members we must ensure they are trained and in practice willing and able to take full professional liability for their work”

Next Steps Doing nothing is not an option What can we do in our practice? Mutual support? What might work for us?

Role of CCGs MONEY TIME/BACKFILL MANPOWER EMPOWER GPs WITHIN PRACTICES AND IN LOCALITIES
