Genitals- organs outside the body Foreskin/ Circumcision Uneven growth of testicles Scrotum may hang loosely or tighten and constrict based on temperature Testicles make sperm about 60 days Sperm production for entire life

Male physiology Sperm start in the testicles Go to the epididymis 18 hours to 10 days Enter the vas deferens & are stored Then the seminal vesicle gives off a fluid into a tube that runs through the prostate. The mixture of fluids and sperm called semen Semen moves to the urethra Urine and semen can never leave the body at the same time

Sperm Sperm have a round like head, a thicker middle part and a tail. Tail is important to be able to swim to fertilize an egg.

Body Functions Tip of the penis is sensitive Normal state of the penis it is soft and limp When the penis is stimulated, blood fills the spongy tissues. The penis then stiffens and extends away from the body= ERECTION All ages have erections. Can be caused by full bladder, or tight clothing. Erections are often related to hormone changes and to sexual thoughts/ dreams. Also morning…

Body Functions Continued An ejaculation is very normal Semen is released from the penis during an erection Nocturnal emission (wet dream)- happens when a boy is asleep. Semen is ejaculated from the penis. Not very much/ about a teaspoon. Don’t be upset/ not controllable. Happens to many people.

Taking care of your sex organs Keep a healthy diet, exercise, clean your body parts. Uncircumcised hygiene is very important Injury protection as well (Contact Sports) Ask parents or trusted adults any questions

Protected by a ring of bone called the pelvic girdle Organs outside the body called vulva Hormones Estrogen Progesterone

Menstruation http://kidshealth.org/parent/general/body_basics/female_reproductive_system.html Three convenient styles make it easy to find protection that works for both your body and your lifestyle. Pantiliners Great for period backup or everyday protection. Pads Fresh, clean protection for any type of flow. Tampons More versatile protection that won’t slow you down.

Menstruation First period is called Menarche Pre-menstrual tension May or may not experience Menstruation Stops About the age of 45-50 or older Stop releasing eggs Menopause Pregnant women experience this temporarily Lining is needed to nourish the developing baby. Be very clean Exercise helps relieve cramps and discomfort Make sure to wipe from front to back to avoid bacteria.

Fertilization of the Egg Vaginal intercourse might take place once the partners are ready What is vaginal intercourse????? Verbal explanation

Fertilization of the Egg Millions of sperm pass into the vagina during an ejaculation. Sperm swim through the cervix and into the uterus, then into the fallopian tubes. Live up to 72 hours If there is an egg in the tube at this time the sperm will try to join to the egg. Hundreds try only one fertilizes the egg.

Fertilization continued Fertilization does not occur every time there is vaginal intercourse. Egg stays in fallopian tube for 24 hours. If sperm are present the egg can be fertilized. If not no fertilization will take place Menstruation will follow in about 14 days and the unfertilized egg leaves the body with unneeded blood and tissue.
