Skeletal System Review

Other than support and protection, what is a function of the skeletal system?

Body movement

What is the difference between the axial and appendicular skeleton?

Axial = head, neck, trunk, skull, vertebral column, ribs, sternum Appendicular = limbs and bones that connect to pelvic and pectoral girdle

Name at least 2 of the 3 bones that make up the pectoral girdle.

Scapula, clavicle, arms

Name the bones that make up the pelvic girdle.

Coxal bones, legs

What is another term for bone tissue?

Osseous Tissue

What are the 3 types of joints?

Synarthrotic, Amphiarthrotic, Diarthrotic

What is an example of a saddle joint?

Thumb

Which skull bone is shaped like a butterfly or bat?

Sphenoid

Which suture separates the frontal and parietal bones?

Coronal

What is another name for your cheek bone?

Zygomatic

What is the difference between true and false ribs?

True ribs = connected to sternum False ribs = connected to cartilage

What is the longest bone in the body?

Femur

Which disorder occurs in children with vitamin D deficiency?

Rickets

Which side are the ulna and radius on?

Ulna = pinky Radius = thumb
