Body Structure The basic unit of all living things is called a cell. 3 main Parts: Nucleus, Cell Membrane and Cytoplasm

Parts Defined Nucleus- Control center of the cell. Cytoplasm- Jelly like substance that contains the working parts of the cell inside the cell membrane. Cell Membrane- Outer covering of the cell. Provides protection to the cell, structure and lets in water and other nutrients and keeps out the bad.

Body Structure Cells make up tissues Tissues make up Organs Organs make up body systems

Homeostasis The condition at which your body’s internal conditions are at a stable state. Examples:

Skeletal and Muscular System What are the main functions of the skeletal system? Provide protection Give your body shape and form

Skeletal System Ligament- bone to bone connection Tendon- muscle to bone connection Cartilage- cushions joints Review Problems Chart page 118 Level Blue- Decisions for health

Muscular System What is the main function of the muscular system? The muscular system works with the skeletal system to make your body move. 3 types of muscle: Smooth Muscle Cardiac Muscle Skeletal Muscle

Parts of the Nervous system Main function- control the bodies activities through electrical impulse Parts of the Nervous system Brain Spinal Cord Nerves

The Nervous System Cerebrum- The largest and most complex part of the brain Cerebellum- 2nd largest part of the brain, controls muscle coordination, balance and posture. Brain Stem- Controls Vision and breathing Review chart on page 111

Endocrine System Main Function- The endocrine system is to transfer information through chemical excretion. Hormones are known as the chemical messengers in the body.

Review Important hormones/glands on page 114.
