POINTS OF VIEW IN NARRATIVE WRITING 2nd Person POV: “You”

2nd person POV in my writing? Why should I NOT use 2nd person POV in my writing? It has the ability to confuse a reader when the reader cannot relate to what you are saying. It attacks the reader. Your reader does not want to be told what to do or how to feel. It shifts the focus to your reader and away from what you are discussing or trying to prove. It limits your audience. If you are writing something, you want it to be read by a large audience. “You” makes your essay relevant to a single reader and no one else.

How can I avoid 2nd person POV? Apply a label to the subject of the sentence other than “you.” It was so loud you could feel your ears bleed. It was so loud I could feel my ears bleed.

How can I avoid 2nd person POV? 2) Use the word “one” instead of “you.” If you don’t understand a part of a book, you should re-read for clarification. If one does not understand a part of a book, one should re-read for clarification.

How can I avoid 2nd person POV? If you are giving directions or challenging the reader, remove the word “you.” You want to appreciate every moment you spend with family. Appreciate every moment spent with family.

How can I avoid 2nd person POV? 4) Instead of using “you,” use “they” or “a person.” After you revise, you should submit your writing to Study Island. After a person revises, he or she should submit the writing to Study Island. After people revise, they should submit their writing to Study Island.
