Business Casual Guidelines 2011

Presenting the Professional Image Employees should present a professional dress image that is consistent within a conservative business setting. The employee represents not only him or herself, but the company he or she works for.

Men’s Acceptable Samples

Men’s Unacceptable Samples Clothing which is revealing, ripped, dirty, or disheveled is not the CapEd way of dressing. Members should not see any representative of CapEd in weekend attire, for example: t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sweatpants, denim, tank tops, see-through materials, shorts, windsuits, and flip-flop type sandals while on duty at the credit union.

Women’s Acceptable Samples

Women’s Unacceptable Samples Clothing which is revealing, ripped, dirty, or disheveled is not the CapEd way of dressing. Members should not see any representative of CapEd in weekend attire, for example: t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sweatpants, capri’s, spaghetti-strap or tank top (by itself), see-through materials, denim, shorts, skorts, windsuits, and flip-flop type sandals while on duty at the credit union.

Cropped vs. Capri Cropped pants fall between the ankle and knee, usually just above the ankle line, and are acceptable to wear to work. Capri’s which end at the top of the calf are not an acceptable length for a conservative business atmosphere.

Women’s Shoes Great ideas Not so great

Women’s Shoes More examples of shoes that are too casual for regular work days (either because of the rubber across the toe and/or the “Ked” type sole or hiking sole). All of these examples would be fine to wear on denim days when sneakers are allowed.

Appropriate Grooming – Body Art Flowers, headbands, and bows worn in the hair must be conservative. Hair feathers and colored strands of hair are not appropriate for a work environment. Tattoos over ¾” in diameter (nickel size) need to be covered and not be visible. With the exception of earrings, all other body piercing jewelry, including tongue rings/studs, must be removed while at work. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis where appropriate (e.g. for religious reasons).

Appropriate Grooming – Name Badges Camille Name badges are required for all staff, excluding the maintenance department.

Conclusion Management reserves the right to make a determination as to what is appropriate in the application of this policy. If you report to work inappropriately attired (clothes and/or shoes), you may be directed to return home to change into more appropriate attire, and will receive no pay for the period of time you are absent for this purpose. If this occurs a second time, you will receive a written warning. If you are unsure if a garment is acceptable, please ask your manager or consult the HR department for approval.
