Wright Flight Mission and Goals The mission of Wright Flight is to inspire students to set goals and teach/motivate them to develop a plan to achieve that goal. The program culminates with each successful student earning 30 minutes of flight time in a Piper Warrior II Emphasis on S.T.E.M. classes Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Students are required to set academic goals and maintain positive character traits
Methods of Instruction Six classroom seminars held after school at South Middle (2:30 PM – 4:00 PM) Aviation History, Communication, Ground Support, Aerodynamic Principles, etc Two flight simulator sessions held at South Middle Microsoft Flight Simulator Program Two Field Trips New England Air Museum Aerospace manufacturing facility (Peerless Precision)
Student Expectations S.T.E.M. Goal Setting Record Sets goal for future grades in student’s Science, Math, and Technology/Engineering classes Completed with parent(s) Exemplary behavior at all times Includes school and Wright Flight Events Student Pledge Worksheet Students pledge to not use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco Acknowledge flight line safety requirements Students are only allowed to miss two sessions Make Up sessions must be coordinated in advance unless the student is absent from school that day
Program Costs Costs Tuition cost is $190.00 Costs include flight day (fuel, instructor pilot, field trip admission, etc) Payment Schedule $45.00 deposit due by Tuesday, January 15th Second payment of $75.00 due by Tuesday, February 5th Final payment of $70.00 due by Tuesday, February 12th
Program Eligibility Eligibility Wright Flight is open to South Middle 7th and 8th grade students Enrollment offered to 1st 15 students with $45.00 deposit and completed application package Preference given to 8th grade students Students must have a desire and commitment to complete the program and meet their program goals It is Wright Flight policy that no refunds will be given after the first lesson (extenuating circumstances (illness, family emergency, etc.) will, of course, be considered)
Field Trips New England Air Museum, Windsor Locks, CT Tuesday, February 12, 2013 (Snow Date: TBD) Facility tour and discussion Aerodynamics lesson Local aerospace manufacturing facility, Tuesday, March 26, 2013 Peerless Precision Manufacturing (Mainline Drive in Westfield) Facility Tour Career opportunities discussed with focus on S.T.E.M.
Flight Day April 30 (Backup Date: May 23) Barnes Regional Airport Parents are Most Welcome (Encouraged!!) Bring your cameras! It’s a fun day!! Observation Patio Available Lunch will be provided and students will receive t-shirts to wear for the day
