A Consistent Ethic of Life THE SEAMLESS GARMENT A Consistent Ethic of Life

“When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four shares, a share for each soldier. They also took his tunic, but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top down. So they said to one another, ‘Let’s not tear it…’” (John 19:23-24a)

JOURNAL QUESTION: Do you consider yourself a “pro-life” person? Why or why not? What does that term mean to you?

Joseph Cardinal Bernardin When he was first ordained, he was the youngest bishop in America (age 38) Was the first General Secretary of the USCCB Was head of the USCCB committee on War and Peace Established an AIDS task force in 1985 Was the head of the Committee for Pro-Life Activities of the USCCB Died in 1996

Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Those who defend the right to life of the weakest among us must be equally visible in support of the quality of life of the powerless among us: the old and the young, the hungry and the homeless, the undocumented immigrant and the unemployed worker. Such a quality of life posture translates into specific political and economic positions on tax policy, employment generation, welfare policy, nutrition and feeding programs, and health care.
