The Meds: Hospital support of the 12 Weeks of Giving Several signed up in New Orleans at SLC, some later. Email blast re: 12 Weeks sent to hospital development staff, current WPFL members, volunteers (statewide). What appealed to them: Limited time commitment Easy tasks spelled out Lots of OPO support ** Note: Donor Registry sign-up format changed on 1/1/07, with primary method as Secretary of State (SOS) branch office and website. Gift of Life now collects demographic data, but sends to SOS for most sign-ups. SOS sends red heart donor sticker to Michigan residents for front of license or state ID card.
The Meds: Hospital support of the 12 Weeks of Giving OPO support of hospitals through 12 Weeks poster, media releases, newsletter article and email templates Info tables held at hospitals, made successful by: Laptop (internet access) for immediate sign-ups Donor Registry brochures for later sign-ups “Memories from Michigan” donor family quilts Visual aid of actual driver’s license with heart sticker: “Have you heard of the new law about the heart sticker for your license?” Challenges & Recommendations: Tell staff ahead of time to bring driver’s license to sign up Remove email address requirement on sign-up webpage OPO provides feedback on how many sign-ups through that hospital * Please note: data entry is incomplete, actual numbers are higher.
The Eds: College support of the 12 Weeks of Giving www.giftoflifemichigan.org/goblue 1st Annual Wolverine vs. Buckeye Challenge for Life (ended mid-Nov) 1,588 Michigan sign-ups 4,966 Ohio sign-ups ** Why UM lost: OSU is a solid Workplace Partner, with the right people on board and community-wide support. Do differently next time: - Use a campus URL, rather than outside organization (easier to remember) - Engage UM as Workplace Partner early in the year, build relationship with staff.
The Eds: College support of the 12 Weeks of Giving 4th Annual Gift of Life University Challenge (over 3,700 sign-ups as of 2/26) Numbers down from previous years Lots of start-up challenges (side effects of new method of signing up) Delayed start (see above), 5 weeks instead of 6 Lessons Learned from College Outreach: Allow plenty of lead time for schools! Event organizer controls website changes (for on the fly, quick responses) Have all materials ready for distribution at least a month out Work with established college networks (ex: Michigan Campus Compact)
Us: OPO support of the 12 Weeks of Giving Questions about the Michigan Organ Donor Registry Staff are considered experts by the public New law – need one universal message, eliminate confusion Email from Executive Director inviting participation in “Give 5, Save Lives” Laptop in kitchen during monthly staff meeting day ** Next time: include hyperlink to sign-up page in original email blast, for staff not attending monthly staff meeting.
