Friction Every day you see moving objects come to a stop. The force that brings nearly everything to a stop is friction FRICTION is the force that acts.
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious... It is the source of all true art and all science." - Einstein.
Friction. Four Types of Friction: 1.Static Friction: -- Friction when an object is at rest. -- Due to the microscopic bumps and grooves on the two surfaces.

Force Problems involving Friction. What is Friction?  It is a force that opposes motion.  Friction is caused by the contact (rubbing) of 2 surfaces.

FRICTION. Friction A force that acts in a direction opposite to the motion Will cause a moving object to slow down and finally stop.
Newton’s First Law Notes Force: A push or pull More than one force can act on an object at the same time. Net Force: Combination of all forces acting on.
Friction and Gravity. 1. What is friction? The force that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other.
 Friction is a resistive force caused by two surfaces sliding across each other.  Always acts opposite the direction of motion.
The Force of Friction Friction opposes motion between two surfaces that touch each other. The amount of friction depends on.....

Unit 2 Force & Motion Ch 5 Sec 3 Friction

Friction friction - force that resists sliding between two touching surfaces slows down/stops moving objects w/o friction, a moving object would continue to move in a straight line at a constant speed

3 Types of Friction static friction sliding friction rolling friction prevents an object at rest from moving - caused by the attraction of atoms on touching surfaces - rougher, heavier objects have more static friction slows down a sliding object - caused by the microscopic roughness of surfaces makes a rolling object continue to roll

Air Resistance air resistance - a form of friction that slows down objects moving through air (lighter, broader objects have more air resistance)

Changing Friction Reducing Friction Increasing Friction Use lubricants Smoothing with Sand Paper Ball Bearings Sand on Ice Press Harder (more force)
