Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! John Newton was a slave trader for nine years (1745 to 1754). He returned to England and became a minister and an abolitionist. He is famous for writing the Christian hymn “Amazing Grace.” Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
