Tuesday, April 19, 2016 "Godly Contentment" 1 Timothy 6:6-12 NIV

1 Timothy 6:6-12 NIV 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

1 Timothy 6:6-12 NIV 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Three Key Observations From Sunday's Message...

1. Be careful and not become obsessed with getting rich or acquiring more stuff.

2. Don't judge your success on what others may have.

3. Chase something that will last 3. Chase something that will last. Pursue godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

What Is The Secret To Contentment? By John MacArthur www.gty.org/resources/questions

The Apostle Paul learned the secret to living a life of contentment. As believers, we too can learn to live a contented life. John MacArthur in his article entitled, "What is the secret to contentment?" shares six steps to living with Godly Contentment based on the life and teaching of Paul.

Steps to Godly Contentment: Learn to give thanks in all things. 1 Thess. 5:18 Learn to rest in God's providence. Rom. 8:28 Learn to be satisfied with little. 1 Tim. 6:6 Learn to live above life's circumstances. 2 Cor. 12:9- 10 Learn to rely on God's power and provision. Eph. 3:16 Become preoccupied with the well-being of others. Phil. 2:3-4
