Abingdon Community Church Acts 21-28: Paul’s obsession (aka “the story continues”) Continuing series on Hebrews... Dorian introduced the book fantastically 2 weeks ago. I have been given chapter 2 and as I prepared, I realised that in fact we are still in the introduction of this letter – in fact doesn’t really read like a letter, more like a sermon: an exhortation to Christians facing temptation to go back to old Jewish faith or other ways of trying to connect with God because their Christian walk was hard going... But very elegantly written – spiral pattern: touches on main themes, flagging them up before he unpacks them fully, and keeps throwing in warnings and encouragements to his readers even before he gets to the main application at the end... So apologies because we will almost certainly cover some of the same ground as chapter 1, but hopefully we will also see how the writer here takes it further... Sunday 27 November 2016
