Presented by: Kaylee Hartwig Horse show team Presented by: Kaylee Hartwig

What is the show team? This is a special team designed to get Prospects name out there. This team will compete in local shows to earn ribbons, and money. I believe this team has the ability to succeed. I have been thinking about this for a long time. I believe that this is a great way for me to use my knowledge of showing and my PATH training to make a mark.

Plans for the team & how it will help the students The team will compete in local horse shows (Manatee & Sarasota county) The team will consist of 2-4 students The students will learn how to cooperate, and prepare for shows The students will learn the steps to prepare themselves for shows and how  they prepare their horses for a show Showing helps a student build up confidence

More benefits of showing Problem solving Goal setting Organizational skills Time management  Communication skills

Why is this important? Showing is the great for kids, it helps them learn some life skills. In the show ring it is just the horse and rider, this helps them bond with their horse and show off their skills. For most kids showing is scary, but if they show in the same classes with their friends it becomes less scary. When the students practice and take care of their horses, it will build a bond that is strong between horse and rider. This also helps the kids in the therapy part as well. Kids will build up muscle tone in their arms and legs, this will also help kids practice balance. Once the kids show, no matter how they do we will applaud and celebrate their accomplishments.

What are the plans for the team? The show team will attend 3 shows in Manatee and Sarasota county. This team will also be encouraged to participate in different types of classes, from halter to western pleasure. I will encourage the kids to take a small step outside their comfort zone to discover a fun, new and exciting part of the horse world. The kids will be encouraged to come and help with all parts of showing, from grooming their horse, to preparing and practicing for their upcoming classes. As we attend shows, I will advise all riders and parents that horse shows are all a waiting game. This is where the kids will learn patience, they will see that you will get ready for a class, and then wait a couple minutes to be called into the ring. The kids will be encouraged to participate in as many classes as they would like, but if they don’t feel that they are ready to show. I will encourage them to still come and support their friends, and to watch classes.

Fundraising I will send out letters asking for sponsors to support our show team I can limit classes at certain shows depending on cost per class and the riding ability I'll plan a bake sale, and other fundraisers to bring in additional funds to support the team I plan on parents helping with part of the cost

How the team will practice & what will be provided at shows The Team would practice on Saturdays (if ok with Susan and with shows approaching ,we would add a Friday practice) At horse shows the food and drinks can become a little expensive, so I would hope to provide a cooler with waters for the riders, that way parents can save some money.   Horse shows are tiring after you've been standing for a while, so I will encourage parents to bring camp chairs, that way the kids and them can sit.

Michael Doing a horse show with chance When I asked Michael if he wanted to do a show, he was excited. So we practiced and work together on skills to prepare for classes. When we got to the show Michael helped with as much as he could, he groomed, went over his patterns, and finally got to show off his skills. We competed in the Sarasota county 4H horse show.

In conlusion… If the students are properly trained, and know what to expect then this should be an enriching experience for them. This would also put Prospects name out in a positive light.
