UPDATED FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR ALL THINGS BETA UPDATED FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

GETTING AN INVITATION DETERMINED BASED ON ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN 7TH GRADE STUDENTS WITH AN OVERALL YEARLY AVERAGE OF 92.5 OR BETTER WILL RECEIVE AN INVITATION TO JOIN BETA CLUB THIS IS THE AVERAGE OF THE F1 COLUMN OF YOUR FINAL REPORT CARD FOR MATH, SCIENCE, READING, AND SOCIAL STUDIES

BETA DUES DUES WILL BE DUE ONE WEEK AFTER OUR INTRODUCTORY PARENT MEETING. BETA DUES ARE $25 IN TOTAL $15 (NATIONAL) AND $10 (LOCAL) ONCE DUES ARE COLLECTED STUDENTS WILL BE REGISTERED WITH THE NATIONAL BETA CLUB WHICH ALLOWS US TO RECEIVE THEIR PIN AND CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION FOR OUR INDUCTION CEREMONY

MAINTAINING ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY REPORT CARDS MUST BE CHECKED/VERIFIED AT THE FIRST MANDATORY MEETING FOLLOWING EACH REPORT CARD STUDENTS MUST MAINTAIN AN OVERALL/CUMULATIVE AVERAGE OF 92.5 OR HIGHER AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH GRADING PERIOD IF A STUDENTS CUMULATIVE AVERAGE DROPS BELOW 92.5 THE STUDENT WILL BE PLACED ON PROBATION FOR THE FOLLOWING 9 WEEKS IF A STUDENT GOES ON PROBATION 2 GRADING PERIODS IN A ROW, THEY WILL GO ON AN INACTIVE STATUS DURING AN INCATIVE STATUS, STUDENTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN BETA SPONSORED EVENTS.

MAINTAINING BEHAVIORAL ELIGIBILITY BEHAVIORAL PROBATION IS DETERMINED BY A DEMERIT SYSTEM STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A DEMERIT FOR EACH DISCIPLINE REFERRAL SUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A DEMERIT FOR NON-ATTENDANCE AT 3 MANDATORY BETA EVENTS THREE DEMERITS WILL RESULT IN BEHAVIORAL PROBATION BEHAVIORAL PROBATION WILL LAST FOR 9 WEEKS

OFFICERS AND THEIR ROLES PRESIDENT RESPONSIBLE FOR SHARING OUR NEWS FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THE WEBSITE RESPONSIBLE FOR BEING THE “FACE” OF BETA AND HELP PROMOTE POSITIVE LEADERSHIP THROUHOUT OUR BETA CLUB RELAYS MESSAGES FROM SPONSORS TO BETA MEMBERS VICE PRESIDENT HELPS THE PRESIDENT FULFILL HIS/HER ROLES SECRETARY TAKES NOTES OF OUR TUESDAY/MANDATORY MEETINGS TREASURER HELPS AID IN MONEY CONCERNS BY WRITING RECEIPTS AND LOGGING MONEY COLLECTION WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOR ABLE TO HANDLE ANY MONEY

BETA SPONSORED EVENTS FIRST SIX WEEKS SECOND SIX WEEKS THIRD SIX WEEKS FOURTH SIX WEEKS FIFTH SIX WEEKS SIXTH SIX WEEKS TUESDAY MEETINGS INDUCTION CEREMONY EVENT PREP SERVICE PROJECT SHOWCASE CONVENTION SANTA’S WORKSHOP INDUCTION CEREMONY FOR UPCOMING 8TH GRADERS ADDITIONAL EVENTS NOT BY SIX WEEKS VETERAN’S DAY HORNET HANGOUT BLUE SUEDE

EXPECTATIONS OF LEADERSHIP BETA STUDENTS SHOULD BE A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL IN OUR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY STUDENTS WILL BE ENTERED INTO A DRAWING TO WIN A GIFT CARD FOR LEADERSHIP STUDENTS CAN PLACE A DESCRIPTION OF EVIDENCE AS PROOF OF BEING A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL IN A JAR TO BE ENTERED IN A DRAWING AT CHRISTMAS AND AT THE END OF THE YEAR DESCRIPTIONS MUST BE DATED AND SIGNED OFF BY A TEACHER OR ADULT IN THE COMMUNITY OTHER THAN AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER THIS MUST BE DONE IN ADDITION TO COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS STUDENTS MAY ENTER MULTIPLE INCIDENCES OF BEING A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL, BUT THESE SHOULD BE BASED ON MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES. TEACHERS MAY ENTER A STUDENT THAT THEY WITNESS BEING A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL.

MANDATORY MEETINGS MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY MORNINGS AT 7:20 IN MRS. WALTERS’ ROOM STUDENTS MUST SIGN-IN IF A STUDENT IS ABSENT FOR THE DAY, THEY ARE TO CHECK-IN UPON THEIR RETURN TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR MEETING ATTENDANCE IF A STUDENT DOESN’T CHECK-IN PRIOR TO THE NEXT MEETING THEY WILL BE COUNTED AS NOT IN ATTENDANCE OUR SERVICE PROJECT IS MANDATORY FOR ALL ACTIVE BETA MEMBERS AND IS IN ADDITION TO COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS

PARENT INVOLVEMENT WE NEED HELP TRANSPORTING CONVENTION EVENTS LIVING LITERATURE MUST BE TRANSPORTED SEPARATELY FROM THE BUS WE NEED HELP PREPARING CONVENTION EVENTS SOME EVENTS WILL REQUIRE PARENT COMMITMENTS BEFORE WE CAN BEGIN THE PROJECTS AND WILL NOT BE COMPLETED WITHOUT PARENT OVERSEERS (LIVING LITERATURE IS ONE OF THESE EVENTS) WE NEED CHAPERONES FOR CONVENTION DETERMINED ON AN AS NEEDED AND FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. I PLACE YOUR NAME ON A LIST BASED ON WRITTEN AND DATED COMMUNICATION OF INTEREST WE NEED HELP WORKING/RUNNING SANTA’S WORKSHOP STUDENTS WORKERS WILL WRAP, HELP ASSIST SHOPPERS, AND RESTOCK TABLES PARENTS ARE OVERSEERS AND RESPONSIBLE FOR HANDLING MONEY

CONVENTION AT OPRYLAND HOTEL DATES: NOVEMBER 19-21 (SUNDAY, MONDAY, AND TUESDAY OF THANKSGIVING WEEK—SCHOOL IS OUT THAT WEEK) NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF $30 IS DUE ONE WEEK AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE FIRST REPORT CARD DUES ARE DETERMINED BASED ON ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION AT CONVENTION, WILL BE DUE BY THE THURSDAY THE WEEK PRIOR TO CONVENTION, AND HISTORICALLY ARE AROUND $200 PER PERSON. WE COMPETE IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT ACADEMIC AND CREATIVE EVENTS WE HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN COMPETITIVE IN MATH, BANNER, AND QUIZ BOWL AND WE HAVE IMPROVED GREATLY IN T- SHIRT, SCRAPBOOK, LIVING LIT, AND SPOTLIGHT WE WILL NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS TO OVERSEE ANY CRAFT/CREATIVE PROJECT. WE WILL NOT COMPETE IN ANY CRAFT/CREATIVE PROJECT WITHOUT A PARENT TO OVERSEE THE PROJECT ANY STUDENT ON PROBATION DURING THE 3RD SIX WEEKS MAY NOT ATTEND ANY STUDENT NOT ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN AN EVENT AT CONVETION AS WELL AS ACTIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO THE PREP MAY NOT ATTEND. WE WILL NEED CHAPERONES IF SPACE IS AVAILABLE, THEY MAY RIDE THE BUS YOUR ROOM IS PROVIDED, BUT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN MEALS YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FO A SMALL GROUP OF 4-8 STUDENTS YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO SHARE A ROOM WITH ANOTHER CHAPERONE

FUNDRAISING CANDLE SALES STUDENTS HISTORICALLY HAVE EARNED $4 PER CANDLE SOLD SELLING AROUND 35 CANDLES WILL TYPICALLY COVER THE COST OF CONVENTION ORDERS ARE PLACED IN A TIME FRAME THAT ALLOWS CANDLES TO BE DELIVERED TO THE SCHOOL THE WEEK WE LET OUT FOR CHRISTMAS MONEY MUST BE COLLECTED WHEN THE ORDER IS PLACED ALL CANDLE SALES ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 5 ORDERS ARE NOT CANCELLED IF CONVENTION ELIGIBILITY CHANGES

COMMUNITY SERVICE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE 20 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS IN ADDITION TO OUR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT 15 HOURS MUST BE COMPLETED BY CONVENTION AND THE REMAINING 5 MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE START OF THE SIXTH SIX WEEKS IF COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS ARE NOT COMPLETED THE STUDENT IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE “ROLE MODEL” PRIZE COMMUNITY SERVICE MUST BE SIGNED OFF BY THE PERSON THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED TO AND CANNOT BE AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER. STUDENTS CANNOT BE PAID FOR SERVICE

COMMUNITY SERVICE IDEAS PEER TUTORING (TEACHER SUPERVISED) VBS CHECK WITH CHURCH LEADERS SERVICE OF TEACHERS (GRADING PAPERS, ORGANIZING, CLASSROOM HELP—CAN’T BE DONE DURING SCOOL HOURS) WORKING THE SCHOOL BOOKSTORE HELPING WITH THE VETERAN’S DAY PROGRAM HELPING WITH BLUE SUEDE WORKING ATHLETIC CONCESSIONS TRUNK OR TREATS VOLUNTEER WORK (SERVING FOOD OR HELPING AT NURSING HOMES)

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT WE ARE A SERVICE ORGANIZATION AND WILL COMPLETE A MANDATORY SERVICE PROJECT THAT BENEFITS OUR COMMUNITY. COMPLETED IN THE SECOND SIX WEEKS WE COMPLETED A “CAMPUS CLEANUP” AT THE PARK AND MIDDLE SCHOOL TWO YEARS AGO AND FILLED SUPPLY BOXES AT MFUMC LAST YEAR WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW IDEAS
