Enabler Individual helps the addict continue to use Often buys, lies or makes excuses for the addict “Cleans up the mess”

Hero Family caretaker Overachiever Works hard to prove that the family is ok

Troublemaker “Scapegoat” Deals with the situation by acting out Often in trouble at home, school or with the law
