Star Light Star Bright Desktop Constellations Learning Target: Explain the difference between apparent magnitude and absolute magnitude and how the size of a star affects these properties.

Star Light Star Bright Desktop Constellations Activity: Each Group will be investigating groups of stars within a constellation and researching the actual distances of the stars. 1. Each Group will need to choose a Northern Hemisphere constellation 2. Each Group will need to research their chosen constellation. Required Research: (Suggested resources on class website) 1. What are the names of the 7-10 main stars that comprise the constellation? 2. How far away in light years is each main star? 3. What is the apparent and absolute magnitude of each main star? 4. What is the correct color for each main star? 3. Each group will need to draw each main star from the constellation & also draw the background image (what the constellation represents) on poster paper. (Greatest apparent magnitude larger circle/ Lower apparent magnitude smaller circle) Each star should have a label for its distance and apparent magnitude. 4. Each group will need to complete the data table with each star name, apparent magnitude, and absolute magnitude, and distances in light years. 5. At the completion Each group will complete a gallery walk
