Where we are at Combined Separate Started in Year 9 All topics have been covered 11 lessons per fortnight Recap content Based on exam skills Separate Started in Year 9 ¾ of content has been covered 12 lessons per fortnight Aim to finish content by second mock (February) Revision needs to be done at home

Mock Exams There will be two rounds of mock exams: Mock 1: 4th December Mock 2: 12th February These mock exams are important for students as results will influence decisions on which students sit the Higher/Foundation papers.

The GCSE Exams! Foundation = 1 → 5 Higher = 4 → 9 Foundation - 50% low demand and 50% medium demand Higher - 50% medium demand and 50% higher demand 27% of the marks will be for content found in both Higher and Foundation. Foundation - scaffolded questions (Pick a word from the box, finish the sentence and draw a line to match up the answers). None of these will appear in Higher tier papers.

The GCSE Exams! What the paper is made up of: 40% AO1 - Knowledge and understanding (only 15% will be recall spec) 40% AO2 - Apply the knowledge 20% AO3 - Analyse (e.g. evaluate a practical method, interpret information) Minimum marks available for maths questions: Physics 30% Chemistry 20% Biology 10% Combined 20% There will be a maximum of 10% of marks awarded for multiple choice questions. New this year: For Physics you now have to learn the equations off by heart. You are no longer given them in the exam.

The GCSE Exams! No coursework for Science, your grade is determined by your six exam papers. A minimum of 15% of the marks on each paper will be testing you on your practical skill and/or knowledge. You will need to complete the core practicals in class and then you will be questioned on these in your final exams. This means you will need to be able to recall details from the practical tasks from across the three year course.

Tips for this year Start your revision at home early. There is so much content to remember, starting off with one hour a week will make things a lot easier when it comes to exam time.
