Assessments Year Profile Pathways Subject Assessments

When will Year 8 students be assessed? Internal Assessment Windows Window 1 Window 2 Window 3 Year 8 10th – 21st December (HT 2) IN CLASS ASSESSMENT   Ongoing assessment in line with departmental curriculum plans 13th – 21st June (HT 6) Maths & Science End of KS3 Assessment TAKE PLACE IN C101 These are the common assessment points during which all subject areas will assess students within a defined timeframe. As a result – the reports that you receive which outline the progress being made in subject areas becomes comparable and can support discussions about where students are performing / underperforming in relation to their other subjects. These are not the only assessments that students will sit this year. Throughout the rest of the year each of your subjects will set students additional assessments that fit with their individual curriculum delivery plans.

When will Year 8 students be assessed? These assessments may not take the full lesson. These assessments make take a variety of forms including practical projects, extended writing or examination style questions. These assessments will take place during the course of normal lessons. These assessments will take the full lesson. These assessments are designed to test students’ learning across an extended period of time (academic year / key stage) rather than across a set number of lessons. These assessments will be conducted in formal examination conditions in C101 or an alternative examination base These assessments will be timetabled and may take longer than 55 minutes These assessments will be designed by subject teachers to look and feel like a GCSE style examination.

How will Year 8 be assessed? All students have an assigned pathway and an end of Y11 target grade Above track On track Below track Serious concern Working above target Advancing Pathway Grade 8’s and 9’s Secure Pathway Grade 6’s and 7’s Developing Pathway Grade 4’s and 5’s Foundation Pathway Grade 3’s + Working at target Working below target Working well below target When teachers enter data that will be shared with home they will use the terms above. They will using their judgement to say whether they feel students are on track to meet their end of Y11 target grade.

How will Year 8 be assessed? This will see their stated end of Year 11 target grade increase within that subject area.

Year 8 profile The scores our pupils get put them in the top 30% of pupils nationally  Anyone reaching the higher standard needs to be aiming for 9 -7 as a minimum. Anyone reaching the expected standard needs to be aiming for 9 - 4 as a minimum.

Homework Expectations HW will be set on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on the subject All homework is to be recorded in the students planner Those students who receive 2 or more notifications for lack of homework will be offered additional support through the weekly home learning club. A letter will be sent to you explaining this .

What’s On Offer? Here at Elthorne Park High School we have a range of extra-curricular activities for students to take part in during lunchtime and after school. Inter form challenges Points system To encourage students to work collaboratively with their peers in tutor groups we run an inter-form challenge on Friday each week. These challenges will change each term and provide students with the opportunity to compete with the other tutor groups in year 8 for the coveted inter-form trophy!
