Higher Technical Occupations Levels in the Maps Occupations can be put into a hierarchy but this may have little to do with educational levels. We have tried to capture this by using three bands for the occupations. Technical Occupations Higher Technical Occupations Professional These are the skilled occupations that a college leaver or an apprentice would be entering. They will typically require qualifications at levels 2/3 These occupations require a more knowledge and skills acquired through experience in the workplace, further technical education, or a higher apprenticeships. These occupations typically require qualifications at levels 4/5 These occupations are outside of the remit of technical education. But they are included on the map to show degree apprenticeships and potential progression from higher technical occupations. Levels 6+

Institute for Apprenticeships Review of post 16 education (Skills Plan)

Overview: Sainsbury Review of Post 16 Education (The Government south advice from an Independent Panel) Introducing the Sainsbury Panel Chair: Lord Sainsbury of Turville, former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State For Science and Innovation (1998-2005) Panel members: Simon Blagden, Non-Executive Chairman, Fujitsu UK Bev Robinson, Principal & Chief Executive, Blackpool and The Fylde College Steven West, Vice-Chancellor & President, University of the West of England Alison Wolf, Sir Roy Griffiths Professor of Public Sector Management, King’s College London One qualification licence to award occupation standard Sainsbury Panel vision (for the 16-19 phase): “It is vital that technical education qualifications and our certification system signal to employers what an individual is able to do… As well as standards which reflect the needs of industry, we need an efficient and effective mechanism for developing qualifications for college-based technical education which meet these standards.”

Academic & T Level structure Study-based * Where a student does both, the traineeship will follow the transition year. Students doing both the transition year and a traineeship may progress directly to employment. ** Some students will move directly from A levels and/or applied general qualifications to degree and higher apprenticeships.
