Design Project Forecast

Important Project Deadlines Prototype 1 – Due Class 11 Should be simple representation of your chosen problem. Can be a sketch or 3D model. Does not need to be elaborate. Prototype 2 – Due Class 13 Should have at least one sensor working and show the form and function of your design idea. Prototype 3 – Due Class 15 Design should be taking final form. You should have multiple sensors implemented and working. Project Descriptions – Due Class 14 Email descriptions to your professor. Descriptions will be incorporated into the Design Expo program. Check the class downloads page for specific dates.

Important Project Deadlines Design Expo – Class 18 Culminating event where teams showcase their work to judges. Formal Judging: 10 minute presentation to 3 judges. Informal Judging: Additional time allotted for other judging teams to see the projects. Invite your family and friends to attend! Design Journal – Due Class 19 Culmination of all the team homework assignments and pictures from the Expo. Keep a digital record of all team assignments turned in for homework. Project Video – Due Class 19 Video that documents your product and your experience in completing the project. Be creative and have fun with the video. Upload to YouTube. Check the class downloads page for specific dates.

Each project will have different safety concerns; keep this in mind as you are think forward to the prototypes you plan to fabricate. Limit all electrical work to the DC voltages utilized in the first-year curriculum. Never leave prototypes plugged in to reduce fire hazards. Do not directly use AC power from an outlet or other source. Do not use firearms, hard or high-velocity projectiles, pressurized chambers that could explode, explosive substances or materials, fire, and dangerous chemicals; please keep your instructor in the loop on what you plan to build so that they can advise appropriately. When using tools, be sure to read the users manual to ensure safe operation. Do not perform any prototyping activities that you have not been trained to perform; contact a trained professional to assist with fabrication beyond your capabilities. You can create prototypes using the techniques that you have learned in the first-year courses; foam core and sheet metal prototypes are acceptable. You can get a high grade on this project without subjecting yourself to significant risk; think and be safe. Safety
