What’s Shakin’ in the Basin? Barry Tonning/Danielle Rogers Licking River Watershed Watch Annual Conference Pendleton County Library October 28, 2017

Watershed Watch Sampling 4 Watershed Watch Training Events: Boone Co – May 13th – 9 volunteers Boone Co – Aug 19th – 4 volunteers Mason Co – Mar 4th – 7 volunteers Mason Co – Oct 11th – 10 volunteers Watershed Watch of Kentucky was awarded the VEE grant. The LRWW will receive $1000 to cover the analysis for the three E. coli sampling events in 2018 and any additional equipment needed.

River cleanups in Pendleton county Debris was removed from the South Fork of the Licking in Falmouth in June and July of 2017.

More cleanups GO WILDCATS!!! In September, the Pendleton County football team removed 200 waste tires from a ravine on Colvin’s Bend Road. GO WILDCATS!!!

Sampling and college Northern Kentucky University student used her experience as a watershed watch volunteer to write a paper about the Winkler Method and dissolved oxygen.

Other news in the licking Five applications for the $5000 minigrant were submitted from the Licking River basin. Only one will be awarded but there are lots of good people and good projects in the works. Gunpowder creek named to the National Water Quality Initiative (NWQI) program, targets BMPs that have the greatest impact on water quality and NRCS is looking at another watershed in the Licking – fingers crossed. DOW’s first TMDL alternative is coming out of the licking. Education and outreach events in 2017: Family Nature Day at Boone Woods Park – 725 people Campbell County Garden Open House – 227 people Bourbon County Field Day – 145 people Triplett Creek Field Days for 8th graders – 160 kids
