Writing Journal Make Time to Read Finishing work from the day before

PSSA tests There will be open ended prompts in both math and reading. (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) There will be open ended prompts in both math and reading.

Math Learning Focus Wall with essential questions Go Math curriculum is aligned with the Pa. common core and state standards. Classes will consist of guided math and will be self-contained. Learning Focus Wall with essential questions

Language Arts Learning Focus Wall with essential questions. Houghton Mifflin books are used to cover curriculum of the Pa. core standards. This year the focus has shifted where the students are not learning to read, but reading to learn. Learning Focus Wall with essential questions.

Writing We will be developing our writing styles through daily journaling, reflective thinking, and responses.

Spelling Lists are formed by patterns found in “Words Their Way.”

Handwriting We use S or N for grades. Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum We use S or N for grades. Students should be able to write in cursive by the third marking period.

Discipline Follow PBIS rules for the school

Homework Check planners and folders each night. Check my website for assignments. Some children like to work ahead in spelling. Check the student’s homework each night. Let me know if something is not understood. It is not usually graded, students will move cards if it is not done.

Report Cards First year for letter grades…see the grading scale. We give midterm grade updates. Extra credit opportunities are given usually for reading, social studies, or science.

Graded Work Folders Papers are sent home periodically. Please remove the papers and sign folder to return to school in the envelope.
