Important information Emails When I receive a parent email, I try to get to it immediately. Please keep them short – I have very little time during the day to read emails. My responses will tend to be short and to the point, so I can get back to the class. I may just say, “Got it!” If you have a lot to tell me, please set up a time to conference or talk on the phone.

Homework Monday: vocabulary – these will be the words we work on all week or…. spelling - if spelling there may be a spelling test on friday Tuesday: Math Wednesday: Literacy Thursday: Math Friday: None This may change based on needs of the students – I will let you know if it does.

Homework: How Much Grades 4 to 5 -- two (2) to four (4) assignments The frequency and duration of mandatory assignments should be: Grades 4 to 5 -- two (2) to four (4) assignments a week, each lasting fifteen (15) to forty- five (45) minutes.

Snacks Please keep them healthy – I am always promoting healthy eating in class. The students Lunch is not until 12:25. If they don’t have a snack at 10:30, they are starving by lunch. Please no community snacks. Please make sure the snack does not have nuts in it. We have students with nut allergies. 8

Grading System 4-= Excellent, above the standard, very few/no errors 3 = Very good, meets standard, few errors 2 = Needs improvement, does not quite meet the standard, many errors 1 = Poor, below the standard, many errors The homework will be graded differently – Star = Excellent, Check + = very good, Check = average, check- = needs improvement,

Fourth Grade Curriculum

Literacy 120 minutes every day (This includes reading and writing) 80 minutes of Reading and writing instruction is done using McGraw/Hill’s Wonders curriculum. Curriculum includes: vocabulary, comprehension, phonics, fluency, grammar writing and spelling. Students will use collaboration and close reading in order to better understand complex text. They will be encouraged to dig deeper and use text evidence to back up their answers. 30 minutes is for differentiation to better meet the needs of each child.

Math 80 minutes a day 40 minutes of instruction 40 minutes of practice Using our new curriculum, Eureka Math, we will be covering the following topics: Place value & Rounding Unit conversions & metric measurement Multiplication & division Geometry Fractions Decimals Measurement/multiplication It is paramount that each child knows his/her multiplication facts in 4th grade. If your child has not mastered his/her facts yet, please assist your child with this goal. Every new concept will be much easier to understand.
