HOW MY BODY WORKS

Your arms and legs are your limbs

Head Torso Limbs Classify the body parts back eyes fingers chest stomach mouth arms legs nose Head Torso Limbs

SENSES Touch Smell See Taste Hear

We have five senses: smell taste touch hear see

Our senses tell us about the world around us

I can hear with my ears

I can see with my eyes

I can smell with my nose

I can taste with my tongue

I can touch with my skin

We hear sounds that are loud and quiet

Some things smell good and some things smell bad

We see light and dark colours

sweet sour salty bitter We taste

We touch things that are Hard Soft Smooth R ough

Our body needs oxygen. Oxygen comes from the air we breathe into our lungs.

We breathe air in through our nose

The air travels to our lungs

Our heart pumps the oxygen around the rest of our body in our blood.

We think with our brain

Digestive system Stomach Small intestine Large intestine

We chew the food with our teeth.

The food goes into our stomach and intestine The nutrients go into the blood and travel around our body

skeleton

Your body has a skeleton inside

The skeleton supports your body

The skeleton protects organs such as our brain, heart and lungs

The skeleton is made of bones

Bones are Hard and rigid

The skull is your head bone The skull protects your brain

The ribs and backbone are in your torso

The backbone supports your head and body It’s made of 33 small bones The ribs protect our heart and lungs

Skull Ribs Arm bones Backbone Pelvis Hand bones Leg bones Foot bones

We have bones and muscles to help us move

Bones are….. Muscles are… hard elastic and and rigid soft

Muscles pull bones to move them

Muscles relax and contract to move our body.

Muscles work in pairs to pull the bones Triceps Biceps Our biceps muscle relaxes Our biceps muscle contracts and pulls up our arm Our triceps muscle contracts and pulls down your arm Our triceps muscle relaxes

Joints help you move your body

Joints is the place where two or more bones come together. Which are the joints in your leg? And in your arm? shoulder elbow wrist hip knee ankle
