What is Technical Writing??? To some people, any job with the word "writer" in the title looks like it must be a blast!! writing on a specific subject for a specific purpose to a specific audience.

Is Technical Writing new field??? Many people think Technical Writing is a new field. No!! Technical Writing has been existent for centuries. It is just that it is getting a good shape and the recognition now.

What do Technical Writers do ?? Process documents Business proposals Training material Release notes User manuals Online help files Reports Brochures

Skills Required ?? Ability and willingness to learn about the relevant domain and technology Proficiency in the tools Excellent language skills Interpersonal skills

What are the growth prospects??? You can progress from being a technical writer to a senior technical writer to a project leader before working your way towards becoming a documentation manager. Technical writers, especially those focused on a particular domain, gather a lot of domain expertise and can progress to becoming business analysts. Usability is another career track you can move to from technical writing. As you work with various solutions, you gain an insight into how the design of a solution can be improved to make it more user-friendly. If you gain experience in creating training material, instructional design is a natural evolution.

What salary do I get??? Technical Writing proves to be a very good career option. A fresher in the field of technical writing gets paid around Rs.15,000 per month. A technical writer with two years of experience is able to draw about Rs.30,000 per month.
