Combination Restaurant/Family Service Style Gives sponsors flexibility when using Family Style Meal service Serve full minimum portion of components served restaurant style The remainder of components served communally and adhere to all Family Style requirements Some Sponsors find a combination of restaurant style and family style best meets the participants’ needs. This gives sponsors some flexibility when serving meals family style when participants are not quite ready to serve themselves all food components – but can do most of then by themselves. Combination meal service operates as follows: The full minimum required portion of one or more components are served restaurant style to each participant. The remaining components are served on the table in communal serving dishes or pitchers adhering to all of the Family Style Meal Service requirements. Also, this style always has an adult seated at the table to supervise the meal, since some items are served family style.

Combo Family / Restaurant Style All components offered at same time All rules governing each style apply to the foods served using that method All components must be offered to participants at the same time. For example, it is not acceptable to serve participants the Meat/Meat Alternate and Vegetable/Fruit components and wait for five minutes before setting the Grains/Breads and the Milk components on the table. In this meal service style, all the rules governing each service style apply to the foods served using that method. For example, if staff pours milk into glasses, at least the minimum required amount must be poured for each child and offered when the rest of the meal components are served.

Point of Service Meal Count Requirements Point of service meal count must be recorded when the participants are seated at the table, have been served all of the food items restaurant style, and the remaining items are placed on the table The point-of-service meal count must be recorded when the participants are seated at the table, have been served the full minimum portions of the items served restaurant style, and the remaining items are placed on the table.
