What is it? The functional Skills IT qualification is designed to help you become more independent when using IT equipment in education, work and every day life. It has been created to show employers that you have grasped the basic skills needed for the work environment. You will gain a number of skills from taking part in the course….

Acceptable Use Policy I Agree I understand that I must use college ICT systems in a responsible way, to ensure that there is no risk to my safety or to the safety and security of the ICT systems and other users.  For my own personal safety: •     I understand that the College will monitor my use of the systems, devices and digital communications.   •     I will keep my username and password safe and secure – I will not share it, nor will I try to use any other person’s username and password. I understand that I should not write down or store a password where it is possible that someone may steal it. •     I will be aware of “stranger danger”, when I am communicating on-line. •     I will not disclose or share personal information about myself or others when on-line (this could include names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, age, gender, educational details, financial details etc. ) •     If I arrange to meet people off-line that I have communicated with on-line, I will do so in a public place and take an adult with me. •     I will immediately report any unpleasant or inappropriate material or messages or anything that makes me feel uncomfortable when I see it on-line.  Follow the link on the website to find out more I Agree

Are you ready? Time to clean up your area Which subjects do we have? How do we organise our work? How do we use a mouse? Task 1 – Can you create a folder for every subject you are going to do this year This is really aimed at getting students using computers. I went into primary schools and some students are so used to using Ipad’s that they don’t know how to use a mouse or create folders. Get the students to create a set of folders and get them to create every folder. Ask them why it is important to create folders and talk about filenames etc..

Which one is the correct folder name? MrChambersICTLessonsYear7 Ooiasjfoijsadfjo Year 9 ICT Computing This is really aimed at getting students using computers. I went into primary schools and some students are so used to using Ipad’s that they don’t know how to use a mouse or create folders. Get the students to create a set of folders and get them to create every folder. Let them know that we’re doing computing not ICT you can be funny and give them permission to correct their teachers ;) OFSTED aren’t happy that some schools are still calling it ICT – Explain to the students that ‘IT’ is a subsection.

Teacher Lead Activity E-Safety Staying Safe Teacher Lead Activity E-Safety Opportunity to snow ball or round robin with the kids here. Get them to come up with as many words or problems with using the internet. One student can come up with the problem and another can come up with the solution and the aim it to make sure that they keep talking.
