George Washington What do you know about George Washington? Where was he from? Why is he famous? Do you know any places in the United States called Washington?

George Washington

George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Virginia George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Virginia. His family was rich. They owned a large plantation. He loved parties and dancing. George was kind and gave money to many poor people. He was the leader of the American Army in the Revolutionary War for independence from England.

George married a wealthy lady George married a wealthy lady. Her name was Martha, and she was 14 years older than George. Their home was a plantation on the Potomac River.

George Washington’s Plantation at Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon was a large and lovely plantation on the Potomac River.

The living room at Mount Vernon was not large, but it was elegant.

Washington loved the garden and pathway at Mount Vernon.

The dining room at Mount Vernon was large and sunny with tall windows.

George’s study.

George believed that America should be free from England George believed that America should be free from England. He did not want a king to rule the new country. He was the leader of the army in the war for independence. He did not ask for any pay for his work. He was a good leader. The soldiers loved him. The men didn’t have warm clothes or shoes, but they kept fighting for Washington and the new country.

George was a fine horseman.

He was a great leader. His soldiers loved him.

It was a difficult war, but the Americans finally won. A new country, the United States, was born.

Washington was grateful that the war was over.

Washington was the leader of the men who wrote the constitution.

George was tired. He did not want to be president.

But Everyone voted for Washington But Everyone voted for Washington. He was the first president of the United States. He was elected unanimously.

After 8 years as president, Washington was tired After 8 years as president, Washington was tired. He wanted to retire to his plantation at Mount Vernon.

He enjoyed many peaceful years at his beloved Mount Vernon. He died peacefully at his home in 1799. He was a good president.

People say he was “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”
