Indonesia Research Work Out Day Engaging through research and teaching partnerships informing and connecting with Australian Indonesian societies Dr Katharine McGregor, Melbourne University

Across the HE sectors: Collaboration Possibilities research priorities, interdisciplinary research, research on Asia and international collaboration Melbourne University: some reflections: the research institutes, Asia at the university, international collaboration Australian research funding priorities, the ARC, ‘understanding our region and our world’ Indonesian research priorities national and university level (UI and UGM)

Across the HE sectors: Staff and Student Mobility Australian sabbatical programs Australian in country subjects, increasing flexibility Increasing Indonesian flexibility and support The Asian Century report : AsiaBound Grants and the push for greater experience of Asian universities

Group Questions What is collaboration? What are successful measures of collaboration? What have we learnt from our collaborations about what works and what doesn’t? What kinds of support for mobility would we like to see for staff and students from Indonesia and Australia? What are the constraints and possibilities here? What would the benefits be?

Social Equity What responsibility do we have to our international research colleagues and the communities we undertake research on/with? Some thoughts to get you going: - How do we build our colleagues research capacity? - How do we ‘give back’ to the communities we research on/with? - How far should we go?
