Parallel Lines & Angle Relationships

DEFINITIONS Parallel Lines: Lines in a plane with the same slope…they never intersect Transversal: A line that crosses parallel lines.

Corresponding Angles Two corresponding angles are on the same side of the transversal.

Corresponding angles are on the same side of the transversal. One belongs to the upper parallel line and the other to the lower parallel line. 1 2 4 3 5 6 8 7 Corresponding Angles are congruent.

Alternate Interior Angles Alternate Interior Angles are two inside angles on opposite sides of the transversal.

Alternate Interior Angles are two inside angles on opposite sides of the transversal. 1 2 4 3 5 6 8 7 Alternate Interior Angles are congruent.

When parallel lines are cut by a transversal Corresponding Angles are congruent. Alternate Interior Angles are congruent. Alternate Exterior Angles are congruent.
