Lesson 12.2 Angles and Parallel Lines Essential Question: How do you find the measures of angles cut by a transversal?

Before we start… Find the measures of the numbered angles.

What are parallel lines? Two lines in the same plane that do not intersect

What is a transversal? A line that intersects two or more lines at different points

What are corresponding angles? Two angles that occupy corresponding positions

What are alternate interior angles? Two angles that lie between the two lines on opposite sides of the transversal

What are alternate exterior angles? Two angles that lie outside of the two lines on opposite sides of the transversal

In the diagram of the John Hancock Center in Chicago, line t is a transversal. Identify the corresponding angles, alternate interior angles and alternate exterior angles.

Angles and Parallel Lines

In the diagram, transversal t intersects parallel lines m and n In the diagram, transversal t intersects parallel lines m and n. If 𝑚∠1=75°, find the measures of the other numbered angles.
