Mrs. Fuentes- Reading 6 Class Procedures and Rules

Who Am I?  Hello! I was born in Hollandale, Mississippi which is in what people call the Delta.

Early Life 1979 to Vegas  Robert E. Lake Helen C. Cannon Green Valley High School Class of 1996 UNLV Majored in Kinesiology Switched to Elementary Education Masters Administration

Rules *Entering Classroom Line up outside in hallway and await permission to enter Write objective and homework in planner Look at the board and take out necessary supplies and homework – sharpen pencil before class starts!

Am I allowed to talk? You may talk quietly upon entering the room as you take your seat. You may quietly discuss the question and answer to the day’s warmup Once the bell rings- Class has begun and you are expected to end side conversations and begin listening to instructions

Warm-Up Question Warm-up’s are to be completed as soon as you find your seat in the room. You are expected to have your supplies out before the bell rings and begin working at the beginning of class. Warm up Questions are to be completed on the warmup sheet everyday. You are responsible for keeping yours safe. They will be collected every two weeks!

What if I lose my warm-up sheet? You are always responsible for turning in your warm-up’s at the end of two weeks even if you’re absent or you lose it. You will have to redo the questions on the warmup sheet. Warm-up sheets and questions can be found on my website at afuentes@interact.ccsd.net fuentap@nv.ccsd.net

Getting the class’ attention Many times I will simply stand in the front of the room and wait for the class to quiet down. If you notice the teacher waiting patiently for your attention, please alert your classmates, end your side conversations and look up front.

Verbal cues T says – “hocus pocus” S says – “everybody focus” T says – “Ready to Rock” S says – “Ready to Roll” T says – “One, two, three, eyes on me” S says “three, two, one, talking is done” Clap and response Celebration cues coming soon. 

Nonverbal cues I will count down on my fingers from 5-4-3-2-1 The countdown will be silent, but at times it will be said aloud Everyone needs to keep their eyes on me and to do the same By the time we reach one the entire class should be silent and ready to listen

Use of Restroom Use before entering class Do not interrupt class to ask for permission If you must go, silently hold up the sign language symbol for I will silently say yes or no You receive two bathroom passes per quarter Take pass and sign out on sign out sheet

Sharpening Pencils Pencils are to be sharpened before class. If class has begun, trade your pencil for a sharpened one.

Getting out of my seat You may not get out of your seat in order to throw away trash, blow your nose, stretch, use hand sanitizer, etc. without asking for permission. Please just raise your hand and I will most likely let you!

Let’s Practice!

Assignment Expectations Proper heading (see School wide heading on wall) Write legibly (neatly) Pencil only unless otherwise directed Title your assignments

Too messy What Doesn’t Fly Papers that are torn Papers torn from a spiral must have clean edges Illegible handwriting Too small Too messy

Daily Supplies Notebook Binder with notebook paper- three hole punched/lined Pencils – if mechanical be sure to have lead Blue/black pen for final copies only

Tardy When returning from office or another teacher, do the following: Do not disrupt. Put the late pass in the designated spot. Copy the objective and take out necessary supplies Start and complete bell work Collect any handed out homework or other materials before leaving class

End of Class We will always review at the end of class! Put papers away in the correct section of your ELA binder Make sure you have the homework recorded Await the dismissal from Mrs. Fuentes.

Asking for Help Raise your hand if you have a question Wait until the teacher finishes giving directions before asking questions Please, do not interrupt the teacher at any time Work on another piece of the assignment while waiting. Do not talk to a neighbor to pass the time

Finished Early? Read, start homework or complete missing assignments There is always something to work on if you finish quickly!

No Name Papers Papers and tests with no names will be placed in a No Name area Papers are discarded at the end of each grading period. If you are missing an assignment check this area!

Classroom Rules Be Respectful! Be Responsible Be Reliable Do not speak when someone else is speaking. Follow Directions the first time. ***Thurman 13 rules will be reviewed in detail on Wednesday. 

Why are these rules important? There are many students in this class, and in order to hear everyone’s opinion we have to take turns. I will be giving directions, so to avoid students from feeling confused, we must listen to the teacher Bullying or picking on others is not tolerated so be respectful

Will there be rewards for good behavior? Yes! Good behavior will not go unnoticed and there will be rewards for those who follow directions on a consistent basis. I will give R-bucks for positive behavior and team points. PBIS behavior flowchart (review) Stay tuned for more information to come…

Now it’s your turn! Think about some rules that you would like for this classroom! What are some activities in school that you love to do? What are some rewards that really motivate you? Think of some things that teachers do that really bug you Is there anything that your classmates do to distract you? How can we make this class even better?
