Biology is the study of life. So how do we define Life?

On a piece of Notebook paper List 5 things that are alive (Leave room to explain step 3) List 5 things that are not alive (Leave room to explain step 3) Next to them give the reason that you know they are living or nonliving.

Brainstorm There are 6 characteristics of life. Lets see how many you can figure out

Traits of Life 1. Living things use energy. 2. Living things move. 3. Living things grow and reproduce. 4. Living things respond to the environment. 5. Living things evolve. 6. All living things are made of cells.

What does it look like to: Use Energy? If something uses energy, does it mean its alive

What does it look like to: Move? If something moves, does that mean its alive Click to play

What does it look like to: Reproduce? If something reproduces, does that mean its alive?

What does it look like to: Respond to the environment? If something responds to stimuli, does that mean its alive?

What does it look like to: Evolve? If something this able to change over time does that mean its alive? VIRUSES ****ARE VIRUSES ALIVE??? Do antibiotics kill viruses?

What does it look like to: Be made of cells? If you observe cells in something does that mean its alive?
