I John 5:1-13 Life in Christ
You Must be Born Again By faith in Christ, we experience a new birth We are “Born Again” as Children of God If you are a child of God, you will love other children of God
Obeying His Commands If we could keep the Law, Jesus wouldn’t have had to die for us We cannot be justified by keeping the Law (Gal. 2:16, 3:24-25, Rom. 10:4) The Law condemns us and offers no hope of salvation
What Did Jesus Say? “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Mt. 11:28-30)
What Did Jesus Say? “If you love me, you will obey what I command.” (John 14:15) “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”(John 15:12)
What Does the Bible Say? “The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Gal. 5:14)
Overcoming the World As Christians, we don’t have to participate in the world’s sinful behavior By faith in Christ we become partakers of the victory won by His resurrection from the dead
Water and Blood Water speaks of Jesus’ baptism At His baptism, the Holy Trinity is revealed Blood speaks of His death on the cross
There are 3 that Testify… The “Spirit” speaks of His resurrection His baptism, death, and resurrection all testify that He is the Son of God God the Father testifies that Jesus is His Son
And this is the Testimony… If you know Jesus as your Savior, you have eternal life If you do not know Jesus as your Savior, you do not have eternal life
The Key Verse of I John “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW you have eternal life.” (I John 5:13)
