Presentation transcript:

“Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11: 1-13 “Lord, teach us to pray…” Father Friend

When you Pray… Address God as “Father” – Set apart in holiness (Lk. 11:2) Godly Desire: “Thy Kingdom Come” (Matt. 6:10) Our Needs: (Lk. 11:3-4) Daily Bread Forgiveness of sin Don’t abandon us in temptation – but deliver us from the evil one (Matt. 6:13)

Understanding the Father Coming to a “friend” at an inconvenient time “about midnight” (Lk. 11:5)

Understanding the Father Coming to a “friend” at an inconvenient time “about midnight” (Lk. 11:5) Friend replies: “trouble me not” – “door is shut” – “children” and “friend” all in “bed” for the night. (Lk. 11:7)

Understanding the Father Coming to a “friend” at an inconvenient time “about midnight” (Lk. 11:5) Friend replies: “trouble me not” – “door is shut” – “children” and “friend” all in “bed” for the night. (Lk. 11:7) Your need: “I have nothing” – “a friend has come to me from a journey”– “Lend me three loaves” (Lk. 11:5-6)

11:5-6) Your “friend” gives but not because he’s your friend – but because of your “importunity” – “Shameless troubling” (Lk. 11:8)

Understanding the Father God does not give requests because He is “troubled” Like the Friend Like the Unrighteous judge (Lk. 18:1-8) The Father is greater than both

Understanding the Father God does not give requests because He is “troubled” Like the Friend Like the Unrighteous judge (Lk. 18:1-8) The Father is greater than both God wants us to Ask, Seek and Knock – always ready to grant the requests (Lk. 11:9)

Understanding the Father God does not give requests because He is “troubled” Like the Friend Like the Unrighteous judge (Lk. 18:1-8) The Father is greater than both God wants us to Ask, Seek and Knock – always ready to grant the requests (Lk. 11:9) God ready to give “good gifts” – Coming from “the Holy Spirit” (Lk 11:11-13)

“Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11: 1-13 Luke 18: 7-8 “Lord, teach us to pray…” My “Father” is not “troubled” when I ask – and He does not finally give in to my requests so as not to be bothered.

“Lord, teach us to pray…” My “Father” is only going to grant the good gifts we request – consistent with the Holy Spirit “Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11: 11-13

“Lord, teach us to pray…” My “Father” Grants to us that which is good in His time “Lord, teach us to pray…” 2 Cor. 12:7-9
