Motion Offense [How to use: click on “Slide Show” above. Next click on “From Beginning.” Finally use the "page up" and "page down" key on your keyboard.]

Motion Offense Keys to a Settled Attack Balance/Spacing: allow the ball space, back up shots; do not undercut someone going to goal Ball Movement: make the defense shift; 2 to 3 shifts=a quality shot Understanding/Awareness (of others): movement with purpose; thinking 2 and 3 passes/moves ahead Communication: tell your teammate what you’re doing Utilize individual strengths and work as a unit

On Ball—Individual Skills and Rules Prepare to catch: hands and feet ready; use a “C” cut Catch in triple threat: drive, pass, and/or shoot Draw and Dump: force the D to double; dump the ball from where the double comes Attack: on the catch, look to shoot—shoot NOW “One and done”: One move and you’re done “If you draw the double team, back out of it”: “Backing out” does not just mean 2 yards—get out of the 12! As you’re backing out, look at the defense not your teammates. Pass and MOVE: DO NOT stand and admire the pass!

Off Ball—Individual Skills and Rules Clear Space for the Ball Balance: fill the spots, cut and replace to maintain balance; back up shot and grub Move with a purpose: create space for the ball; for example, “back door” when you “see the pony tail.” Occupy a defender: “triangle cuts” vs. through the 8m Cutting: change speed and direction. Realize when the cut is not working and redirect. Do Not run another 10 yards Pick/Cut off pick: USE ONE ANOTHER! Usually off ball does not get herself free/open

“Motion Offense—Pass and Cut” Set at 15m; 3 up top, 2 at elbows, 2 behind (3x2x2) X6 attacks immediately, triple threat. X5 and X7 are the 1st players to either side of the ball, so they cut away. X3 and X4 are the next players to either side, so they “pop out.” If either one of them receives the ball , she immediately attacks, triple threat Pop outs always have the option to go “back door” if their cut is overplayed. X1 and X2 cut and replace to maintain balance

Motion Offense (3x2x2) X6 X7 X5 X3 X4 X1 X2

“Motion Offense—Pass and Cut”— after the Pop Out Pass X4 catches in triple threat and attacks immediately. X1 and X6 (passer) are the 1st players to either side of the ball, so they cut away. X7 and X3 are the next players to either side, so they “pop out.” If either one of them receives the ball , she immediately attacks, triple threat Pop outs always have the option to go “back door” if their cut is overplayed. X5 and X2 maintain balance and “exchange”

Motion Offense—After Pop Out Pass X6 X4 X3 X2 X1 X7 X5

“Motion Offense—Pass and Screen” Same structure (set 3x2x2 at 15m) X6 attacks as X5 and X7 clear space. X5 and X7 set screens opposite (in this case X1 and X2) X1 and X2 use the screens, timing their cuts X3 and X4 are the next players to either side, so they “pop out.”

Motion Offense—Pass and Screen X6 X7 X5 X3 X4 D D X1 X2

“Motion Offense—Pass and Screen”— after the Pop Out Pass X4 catches in triple threat and attacks immediately. X1 and X6 (passer) are the 1st players to either side of the ball, so they cut away. X5 and X2 maintain balance and “exchange”

“Motion Offense—Pass and Screen”—after Pop Out Pass X6 X4 X3 X5 D X7 D D X2 X1

“Motion Offense—Skip Pass” Same structure (set 3x2x2 at 15m) X2 attacks as X1 and X3 clear space. “Skip Pass” to X6; X5 “skipped,” so she cuts through *X6 has a tremendous amount of room and a 2v2 situation with X2 Once X6 attacks the goal, all other players look to balance the set (not shown in the next slide)
