Introduction This is a rough schedule of a single story family home located on the southwest side of hattiesburg, MS. It contains some brief descriptive drawings of the project as well as pictures and descriptions of the first eight activities to be produced.

Plan Drawings

1. Temporary Utilities (Water and Power)-01500-800-0350 Temporary power is one of the first undertakings of any project. Nothing can be performed until this phase of construction is taken care of. This picture displays what some images of temporary power might be on a given project. Proper permits and authorization must be obtained before any action may take place. Proper conservation of said resources will garner huge savings.

2. Clearing and Grub Site-02200-220-0300 This involves clearing of all trees, roots, rocks, and service material that might otherwise interfere with construction. This must also include clearing space a number of feet around the foundation. These pictures display how to get a site ready for laying the foundation. Site will usually be graded during this process as well. Many different types of machinery such as tractors, and bulldozers will be used to clean up the site.

3. Excavate Footings-02300-900-0050 A footing is the base or bottom of a foundation. The footings provides the support to the rest of the foundation being built. The footings must be dug up in accordance with the desired design of the foundation. The Footings must be excavated wider than the structure area in order to widen the load to increase support for the structure being built. The picture below shows small trenches being dug to develop the foundation. Batter boards will be put into place to help form the foundation.

4. Set Reinforcing Steel-02300-900-0050 After the footings have been excavated, it is now time to lay rebar. Rebar is a common steel bar often used in concrete and masonry work. Rebar comes numbered, with each number signifying a different size of rebar (EX: # 3 rebar is 3/8” around and weighs less than ½ half lb; #8 is 1 inch around and weighs over 2 ½ lbs). Rebar will strengthen the concrete being used in the project.

5. Termite Protection-02360-800-0010 After placing rebar in, the area must be treated to prevent any termite infestations. Pre-construction treatment ,if performed right, will provide a chemical barrier in the soil that will stop termites from surfacing and attacking any wood in the structure. Pre-construction treatment is relatively in-expensive and must be applied several times during construction to be safe.

6. Rough in Plumbing-02360-800-0010 After treating for termites, there is still one more thing to do before pouring concrete, Rough in plumbing. Rough in plumbing involves setting in pace all the pieces that will be concealed by drywall. This can include (but not limited to) vents, water lines, etc. Pressure tests are usually required to determine for any leaks because after concreter has been poured, it is difficult and time consuming to fix (as you can imagine). In order to avoid any problems, it is recommended to use high quality PVC and good copper.

7. Form Work for Brick Ledge-02360-800-0010 Before the concrete can be poured, work must be done to block out concrete where brick will go. Brick ledges can be formed by placing 2x4’s in either a horizontal or vertical position. Her are some examples of before and after. On the left, the boards have been laid to help form the ledge, on the right this is one example of what the brick ledge will look like after concrete has been poured.

Lessons Learned Using Scheduling software like Suretrak or Microsoft Project can make the project go smoothly. There is a big difference in knowing start to start and start to finish when using a scheduling software. Knowing the productivity of a crew or person tells the durations and how long the project will take.
