What am I? I have 4 sides all the same I have 4 corners. Click here for the Answer

What am I? I’m a pyramid like 3-D shape with a circular base. Click here for the Answer

2 equal sized circular ends. What am I? I’m a long tube with 2 equal sized circular ends. Click here for the Answer

2-D Shapes

Right-angled triangle 2-D Shapes Right-angled triangle Isosceles triangle Scalene triangle No equal sides No equal angles One of its angles is a right angle (90°) 2 equal sides 2 equal angles Equilateral triangle 3 equal sides 3 equal angles of 60°

More 2-D Shapes Pentagon Hexagon 5 sides. have 6 sides Circle No sides No angles

More 2-D Shapes Square Trapezoid Square Rhombus Rectangle Rhombus 4 equal sides 4 right angles Kite 2 pairs of equal No parallel sides. One pair of parallel sides of different lengths Rhombus Rectangle Rhombus Rectangle Parallelogram 2 pairs of equal sides 4 right angles 2 pairs of equal sides Opposite sides are parallel Opposite angles are equal 4 equal sides Opposite sides are parallel Opposite angles are equal

3-D Shapes 3-D means the shape has 3 dimensions; length, width and depth.

3-D Shapes Sphere Cylinder Cone Long tube with 2 equal sized circular ends. Every point on the surface of the sphere is the same distance from the centre. A pyramid with a circular cross section. The point of the cone is directly above the centre of the circular base.

3-D Shapes Six faces which are all rectangles Corners 8 Edges 12 Six faces which are all squares Faces 6 Corners 8 Edges 12

Quiz 1. A triangle with three equal sides is called an isosceles triangles a scalene triangle an equilateral triangle

Let us review http://tinyurl.com/2e3r97 Back to Question 1

2. A 2D shape with 6 sides is called a quadrilateral a pentagon a hexagon

Let us review Click here to learn more about quadrilateral Back to Question 2

3. I have two pairs of equal sides. My opposite sides are parallel 3. I have two pairs of equal sides. My opposite sides are parallel. I have no right angles. What am I? Rectangle Parallelogram Kite

Let us review Trapezoid Square Rhombus Rectangle Parallelogram 4 equal sides 4 right angles Kite 2 pairs of equal No parallel sides. One pair of parallel sides of different lengths Rhombus Rectangle Parallelogram 2 pairs of equal sides 4 right angles 2 pairs of equal sides Opposite sides are parallel Opposite angles are equal 4 equal sides Opposite sides are parallel Opposite angles are equal Back to Question 3

4. Which of these shapes has no lines of symmetry? Square Scalene triangle Rectangle

Let’s take another look. Click here to learn more about quadrilateral Back to Question 4

5. I have four equal sides and four right angles. What am I? Square Rectangle Rhombus

Let us review Click here to learn more about quadrilateral Square Rhombus Rectangle Back to Question 5

6. The distance halfway across a circle is called Circumference Radius Diameter

Let us review Circle No sides No angles Back to Question 6

Polygon Land Ready? Click here. Now, let’s have some fun at polygon Land. You'll find hundreds of polygons to drag anywhere you want. Be a creative designer at polygon Land. These are examples of what you can do there. Be sure to read the instructions before you play. Ready? Click here.

Class Activity Find more about 3-D shapes with your partner. Click on the shapes below and print them then follow the instructions on the sheet.

With a partner, make a chart like the one below and use it to find 3-D shapes around the classroom. Answer each question about the properties of the object and then see if you can correctly identify and name the object.   Number of faces Number of vertices Number of edges Name of shape

Homework Choose a 3D shape and design a promotion poster for it. What makes this shape special? What are its properties? What is it used for/where is it seen (for example, packaging, buildings) and what makes it a good shape for this use? http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/teachers/lesson_plans/shapes.shtml

You made it. Hip, Hip, Hooray!
