Presentation transcript:

What are the treatments? Head Lice What is it? Head lice are tiny insects that live on the skin covering the top of your head, called the scalp. Lice can be spread by close contact with other people. What are the symptoms? -Intense itching on scalp. -Lice eggs (nits) on hair shafts. -White specks stuck near the base of the hairs; lice may be found on the scalp. What are the causes? Head-to-head contact: This is the most common mode of transmission and may occur as children or family members play or interact closely together. Sharing personal items: Less commonly, head lice may be transmitted via such items as: -Caps, hats and scarves -Brushes and combs -Hair decorations -Headphones What are the treatments? -Usually you can get rid of lice by using nonprescription shampoo that's specifically formulated to kill lice. -Clothing and bedding should be washed in hot water.
